Opening a .MSG File on macOS

How do I open a .msg file that was shared with me on macOS?

Environment

  • OWA

Cause

Outlook for macOS does not natively support opening .msg files unlike Outlook for Windows. 

Resolution

  1. Have the file sent to your email inbox. You may need to send it as an email attachment to yourself. 
  2. Log into your email through OWA.
  3. Locate the email in you inbox within OWA and open it.
  4. Depending on how many files that are attached, click Show all attachments to show all files.
  5. Click the ⌄ next to each file and select Preview.
  6. A new window should appear with the appropriate file contents of the .msg file.
