Installing Cisco AnyConnect VPN (macOS)


I already have Duo Security set-up on my phone but I need to use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN on another computer. How do I install it?

 Note: You must be approved by WKU ITS Security in order to use the Cisco VPN. If you have not requested access yet, please follow these instructions.

 Note: This process will involve the computer you need to use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN on and your cell phone. Please have both ready before you start this process.

Installing from the WKU Mac Apps Store:

  1. If your Mac has the WKU Mac Apps Store, open the Mac Apps from the dock.
  2. Navigate to the AnyConnect program. 
  3. Click Install. 
    Note: You may need to have the Mac reboot to complete installation. 
  4. Continue starting from step 10 below.

Installing from the Web:

  1. Go here from the computer that you will use the Cisco VPN on.
  2. Click Download Mac Client.
  3. Save the file.
  4. Open the file.
     Note: You may have to allow the application to be installed from an unidentified developer. Please see this article for assistance. 
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click Continue again.
  7. Agree to the License Agreement.
  8. Click Install.
     Note: You may have to enter in your macOS username and password to install the software.
  9. After it has installed, click Close.
  10. Open the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client by going into your Applications folder and clicking on Cisco.
  11. Double-click Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
  12. In the box type:
  13. Click Connect.
  14. Fill in this information in the corresponding fields:
    • Username: Your NetID
    • Password: Your NetID password
    • Second Password: From your Duo Mobile App click the key icon next to WKU and type in the numbered code.
  15. Click Connect.
  16. You should now be connected to the Cisco VPN. You should now have the Cisco AnyConnect icon in your notification center.
Once you have connected to the Cisco VPN you may use WKU services in the same way you would as if you were on campus. Should you need to connect the the network drives (S:\, P:\ or U:\) please see this article for Windows computers or this article for Macintosh computers
