Issue/Question
When I try to install an app I get a message similar to:
System Extension Blocked
A program tried to load new system extension(s). If you want to enable these extensions, open Security & Privacy System Preferences.
Environment
- macOS 10.13+ (High Sierra+)
Cause
System extensions can access operating system files. To prevent unauthorized access, macOS High Sierra and newer require explicit permission to install software that uses system extensions.
Resolution
WKU-owned Macs setup by ITS since January 2019 need an exception created for the software before the installation can succeed. Please contact the
ITS Service Desk or submit a service request by clicking the
Request Service button.
- Verify you recognize and trust the software being installed. If you do not, contact the ITS Service Desk.
- From the installation warning, click Open Security Preferences.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Allow.
- Return to the software installer and complete the installation.
