Installing Microsoft Office 365 (Windows)

How do I get Microsoft Office for free?

Environment

  • Windows 7+
    • Office 365
      • Office 2016

Cause

Office 365 Pro Plus gives access to the most recent versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other titles depending on platform. Under this program, current Faculty, Staff and Students may install the software on up to five devices/computers.

These are full desktop applications, not web or cloud apps. The software will remain active and usable for as long as you are current Faculty, Staff, or Student.  Based on Microsoft’s licensing requirements, it's not offered to past students who have graduated or leave WKU.

Student Instructions

  1. Login to TopperMail.
  2. Click Office 365 in the top left of the screen.
  3. Check for the Install now button.
  4. If you see it, proceed to step 13. If you don't see it proceed to the next step.
  5. Go to the Eligibility Site.
  6. Enter your WKU email address (@topper.wku.edu).
  7. Click Get started.
  8. Click I'm a student.
  9. Create your account.
  10. Click Start.
  11. Click Skip.
  12. Click through the instructions.
  13. Click Install Office 2016.
  14. Run the installer.
  15. Follow all prompts.

 

Faculty/Staff Instructions

 Note: Office 365 is intended for personally owned computers. Faculty and Staff should not install it on WKU-Owned computers, as it can cause issues with Outlook. For more information, reference the related article, Not Implemented Error When Updating Account.

  1. Go to the Eligibility Site.
  2. Enter your WKU email address (@wku.edu).
  3. Click Get started.
  4. Click I'm a teacher.
  5. Create your account.
  6. Click Start.
  7. Click Skip.
  8. Click through the instructions.
  9. Click Install Office 2016.
  10. Run the installer.
  11. Follow all prompts.
