Installing Microsoft Office 365 (macOS)

Issue/Question

How do I get Microsoft Office for free?

Environment

  • macOS 10.12+
    • Office 365

Cause

Office 365 Pro Plus gives access to the most recent versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other titles depending on platform. Under this program, current Faculty, Staff and Students may install the software on up to five devices/computers.

These are full desktop applications, not web or cloud apps. The software will remain active and usable for as long as you are current Faculty, Staff, or Student.  Based on Microsoft’s licensing requirements, it's not offered to past students who have graduated or leave WKU.

Student Instructions

  1. Log into TopperMail.
  2. Click on the account icon in the top right of the screen.
    Note: This account icon may have your initials on it, or it may have your profile photo if you uploaded one.
  3. Click My account
  4. Click My installs
  5. Click Install Office.
  6. If you see it, proceed to step 17. If you don't see it proceed to the next step.
  7. Go to the Eligibility Site.
  8. Enter your WKU email address (@topper.wku.edu).
  9. Click Get started.
  10. Click I'm a student.
  11. Click Sign in.
  12. Click Ok, got it.
  13. Go back to step 1 of these instructions and complete the full process noted above. 
  14. Create your account.
  15. Click Start.
  16. Click Skip.
  17. Run the installer.
  18. Follow all the prompts.

 

Faculty/Staff Instructions

WKU Retirees do not recieve Microsoft Office for personal devices. Retirees are elligible only for an email address.

 Note: Office 365 is intended for personally owned computers. Faculty and Staff should not install it on WKU-Owned computers, as it can cause issues with Outlook. For more information, reference the related article, Not Implemented Error When Updating Account.
